Ayana Passed Away

pgross8245 Jul 09, 2005 07:34 AM

Sadly, my new Somali, Ayana, passed away yesterday afternoon, barely 48 hours after her arrival. As I alluded in my other posts, she was much thinner than I would like. There was not any real "symptoms" of anything. She was lethargic and stiff, with eyes closed alot, but the new ones are highly stressed from their ordeals, and I try to give them everything to get comfortable, keep them hot and get them eating.
I contacted the place I got her from early Thursday morning to express my concerns, and again last night to tell them of her passing. I also talked to them by phone, so am waiting to see what they are going to do. I feel really bad for my poor little girl, but she is at peace now. I am not used to losing my pets, and even though I only had her two days, she still was special.

It's so very sad that you lost her so soon, she sure did not have a good start, but atleast was made comfortable with you for a short time, thats a GOOD thing, she had some LOVE to take with her.

I had a MAJOR loss my self on July 4th, and know how SAD and awful it is. I have GREAT empathy for you, and hope you will feel better soon.

It's such a shame that these lizards are sold this way, so thin and emachiated, and they have to suffer, as we do watching them.

My thoughts are with you!

Thank you all for your kind words. I am hoping her last 48 hours that at least she was warm and not threatened in any way. I talked to her a lot and wished it had turned out differently. I am still waiting to hear from the place I bought her from.

Thanks again for all of your support.

I read your messages before and after the death of your Ayana. I must say I am mad. The people whom sold you Ayana knew she was sick. Shame on them. I hope you get your money back and an apology. I just purchased my first mali a few weeks ago. They are a very cool animal. Anyway, I'm sorry for your loss..

pgross8245 Jul 10, 2005 09:13 AM

Thanks so much. Did I miss somthing as you mentioned you had a major loss on July 4. If I did miss a post, I'm sorry for whatever loss you incurred. It's interested that the other two Somalis were purchased from the same person and are doing very well, eating like champs. Esoteric mentioned to me that the one I got may have been a "leftover" from previous imported groups. Upon closer inspection, she was missing at least 5-6 toenails/toe tips in addition to the end of her tail. I have still not had any contact from the guy I bought her from.

That really sucks. I know how bad you must feel. I know that when you get new ones home, that we all let them acclimate, but I'd be really torn to "force feed" them if they are at that point. It's a hard call to make, but when they get to the lethargic, eyes closing stage, well. lets just say I think that the last stage. Anyway, jsut a thought for everyone else too.

Again really sorry.

Thanks so much. Unfortunately, she was dying when sent to me. I completely agree about the force feeding, it is a hard determination to make. I just hope her last hours were as comfortable as I could make them.

Pam,

I am really sorry to hear about your loss. These things never get any easier, but as you say, at least she is at peace now, and she took some love with her.
