I will be housing an adult milksnake (L. t. n.), and will have a heat mat positioned on 1/3 of the underside suface area of the 1/4" thick cage, in this case, a gray 24" X 24" X 11.5" Boaphile Plastics cage. Where would the best place be to place the sensor?
My reasoning is to make sure it is FIRMLY affixed to the floor of the terrarium with super glue or epoxy. I was thinking of getting a 2 1/2" X 1" piece of ceramic, and drilling a hole almost all the way through to accept the probe. I woukld affix the ceramic block and probe setup in about where the middle of the underlying heat mat is. One of the hiding boxes would cover the probe/ceramic block, and I would set the thermostat at either 84° or 86°. I would use about 2" of aspen as a substrate. The terrarium itself would be kept in a room which is normally 72°--74° in the fall and winter.
Does this sound like a good game plan, or is their a better way? Thanks!
