What kind of snake has a red tongue?

ericcroll Jul 09, 2005 12:25 PM

I found this snake in North Eastern Pennsylvania in the Pocono Mountain Region. It was lying in an abandoned dog house in the hay with no cover. It looks very similar to a garter, but some things confuse me about it. It has a very bright red toungue, and a diamond pattern in the dark areas of its back. It also is an avid climber. Help????

well im not sure about the red tongue, because a lot of snakes have red tongues. but dependeding on what size and color the snake is, mabey a long shot but a juvenile yellow rat snake is what i guess, but if it is, it should be grey or with some yellow, and even some faint stripes, is it non posionous?
