WaterDish and Pre-Lay Shed

Sasheena May 17, 2003 01:27 PM

My blotched kingsnake just had what could be her pre-lay shed. (I'm not 100% certain she is gravid). I've given her a nest box which she appears to have fallen in love with, but also plan on taking away her large water bowl and giving her a small one that I would fill daily. Should I do that right away, or how long after the pre-lay shed should I remove the water dish to keep her from laying her eggs in the water? Just want to do right by her, in case she is gravid.

thanks for posting the pics down below. I actually pull the water dish out before they do their pre-shed. This year I had a cal king lay her eggs and she never did a pre-shed (2nd time she has done that) and I also had a corn lay 21 good eggs while she was in her pre-shed "blue". I pull their water dishes out and use a spray bottle to water them. They will drink water off their bodies. Or you can put a water dish in with them and observe them on and off throughout the day when you are home and then pull it out at night and when you are gone.
