I can't take it anymore!!!!!!!!!!

I am getting seriously frustrated with my breeding leopard geckos. They ALWAYS lay their eggs in their water dishes drowning the eggs by the time I get them. I have missed out on countless babies because of this. All of the females have a humid hide/lay box in their cages. How do you guys do it? Do you pull the water dishes? I am at a complete loss here.

Sounds like your lay boxes are not moist enough when they are ready to lay.

Yeah ive been thinking that too. I think I am going to switch to vermiculite for the lay boxes. I have been using moss but it just doesn't hold the moisture. I have always stayed away from vermiculite in the boxes because of the reports of asbestos. I have only used it for an incubation medium. I'll try that and see how it goes. It is really frustrating I figure I have lost no less than 10 eggs this way probably many more. Kinda making me rethink this whole venture into leopard gecko breeding. I have been keeping and breeding this group for a few years and they have been alot more work and frustration than my boas, pythons and various colubrids. Kinda makes me cringe when I hear people speak of leos as beginner breeder reptiles. LOL I guess I can breed the toughies but when it comes to the most simple I have problems. Figures, story of my life.

Jeff, I have had issues with just straight peat moss myself. I also had issues with straight vermiculite. The geckos would start eating it. So what I use now that as been working pretty well is one part vericulite and 3 parts moss. Hope this helps.

I use that bed a beast brick, it is pretty easy to find at pet stores. You have to wet it and it expands, you end up with alot. Sometimes it has a different name but it is basicly the same thing.

Well I added straight vermiculite last night so i will most likely take your advice and add a little moss to it. Thanks.
