In Texas we always check the low growth as this is common to find them in or just under low brush. I actually have never found a Texas Horned Lizard burried in loose dirt. Most of the ground in our area is hard pan. In captivity they bury themselves, but remeber at night it's 75 to even as high as 85 at night. At 10:00PM the other day it was 91 degrees, and thier color matches the surroundings so well if you don't know what your looking for theres a great chance you won't find them.....Cheers!!

Thats really cool, I have always thought that most horned lizards just burrowed into the dirt and slept, but I suppose it makes sense why the cornutum don't in the wild. Like reptoman said the dirt is hard pack so it makes sense. Thanks for posting the pic those guys look really comfortable up in the bush. Its cool how since you have an outdoor cage you get to see how they would act more similarly to the way they do in the wild
Again cool pic
