OUTLOOK (New Delhi, India) 10 July 05 Cobra dies after biting Priest of snake temple
Dumka, Jharkhand (PTI): A poisonous white cobra allegedly died after biting a man, who happened to be the priest of a local 'Nag' (snake god) temple.
Viswanath Kunwar (35) of Barhabaghar near Hansdadih in Dumka district was bitten by the cobra in his home late last evening and it died after a while.
The villagers brought Kunwar to Dumka Sadar Hospital alongwith the dead creature this morning.
Dr Nirmal Kumar Singh, who is attending the patient, said Kunwar was alright and did not lose his conscious after the bite.
The villagers said Kunwar, being the priest of the 'nag' temple, was used to handling snakes. He did not even react after noticing the cobra crawling past him, thinking that it would not harm him. But the cobra bit him on his right hand. According to Dr Singh, such a case, in which the snake dies, is possible if the snake-bite victim is addicted to drugs. But the villagers insisted that Kunwar was not addicted to either drugs or alcohol.
