Shedding Question

qstendious Jul 10, 2005 12:59 PM

I recently bought my first panther and have had him/her (not sure of that yet) for about a month. I was wondering how often they shed. Also, my panther is a ambilobe x sambava and is about two inches snout to vent. If it were a male, should I be seeing the bulg in the tail described in males yet? Hopefully I'll be able to post a pic soon to get some feedback about the sex. Thanks for all your help.
Jason

They shed at really variable rates. It's generally tied to growth rate, but growth rate is not constant. Most of mine went through definite growth spurts. Also, when they are small and well hydrated the shed can happen very fast. They also tend to eat the shed more when they are small. It's possible you missed one.

Thanks for the reply but I was looking for something more specific like at least once a month or once every 3 months etc... I do understand that they shed very quickly and I could have missed it but I think there would be some sort of clue that would let me know it happend. Anyway, I thank you for the reply, Jason
