Pics for those who think they can tell a jungle by sight..

PanamaRed Jul 10, 2005 01:28 PM

I got this girl back in 03 sold to me as a jungle..... Thanks to the tight knit community of boa lovers I found out otherwise, but still don't know exactly what she is, accept very pretty at this point. I am over the part where I got ripped off, (unless I run into the fellow at a show...LOL...) She has got the most unusual patterns and colors, as did the rest of the litter, and her parents, stripes, reverse stripes, aberrancy's and combos of all of the above..

I don't intend to scare anyone away from jungles as I think they are an Awesome boa morph just be sure you get one from someone who is on the up and up..

As I said in the post below I am thinking of calling them clown boa if they prove again for me..

Don't get too attached to her.....LOL

A very good example of what's been talked about lately.

in no way, shape, or form, does that resemble a Jungle. I'd break his knee caps...lol

Like I said I'm just waiting to catch up with him at a show..

Well she has the color, (Very pink with a yellow back) even if my pics don't show it, aberrancy, and thick black rings around the tail, the naked head throws it off though, and she does have a very unusual saddle color on the front half of her body..
No offence taken, I put it up as an example, and to show her off a bit.

I have to agree. It has nothing to "my eye" that resembles a Jungle. I will never call myself a Jungle expert. I have yet to own one...........Or, have a litter of them. Which would "train" my eye even more.
I'm really sorry to hear someone took you for a ride. It is really sad to hear stuff like that happening. This is exactly the reason I use to kick and scream when everyone was calling their abberant animals Jungles. They just are not. As I have always said, it really is a buyer's beware market out there. Certain animals and breeders should be questioned. For me, anything being called a Pastel or a Jungle immediately makes me cautious.
Nice looking animal though. Hopefully karma will kick this seller in the "arse".

Nice washed out aberrant boa but doesnt look jungle to me from the pictures.

Biophiliacs Jul 10, 2005 04:56 PM

Very nice boa. You can tell she's got nice color... gd digital cameras can be wonky. Obviously you got boned on the jungle deal but she's got the jungle-esk attributes: color, tail blocks, linear flow of speckling on her sides, unique saddle pattern. But the Pastel traits reduced the saddle and head color so they don't stand out as well.

IMO, pastel and jungle are not complimentary traits. As pastel will soften contrast between background color and pattern. While jungle will bring out contrast between background color and pattern. Really they are contradictory traits. I bet she was a killer baby. I have certainly seen boas sold as jungle that looked less as jungles than her.

I'm a little skeptical that when bred to other "clowns" that she's produce supers. However, as long as she can reproduce boas that look like her, clown would be a fine discription for her.

Later and good luck-

PS.. I've got my own wanna-be as well so I can't say that I'm a passive observer either. Her color was washed out by the flash but the pattern and contrast is there.. would be very cool if it is inheritable.

got 2 jungles from Pete Kahl here, and I'll tell you they do look slightly different but very similar.. IMO
