Beardie Noise?

xcrashx21 Jul 10, 2005 05:41 PM

Today while I was giving my dragon Bubby a bath and washing the underside of his tail gently he made a sort of grunting or hiccupping noise several times. Just never heard him do that before and was curious if is was normal. Also he absolutely hates the leash I bought so he can explore outside. Any chance he'll warm up to it or should I just stick to carrying him around outside? Thanks.

I just take mine outside and watch them. I have a mesh box nearby incase i have to move them, but that's because mine don't run from me at all. I would train him to use the leash (mine aren't big enough yet).
As for the hiccuping, that was probably becauce he was upset with you and some water go in his mouth or something. Let us know if it happens outside of the tub, as it may be a sign of Respirtory infction or such.

It probably was a sound that we think all beardies can make, but do not know they can.

We have 1 male and 5 females that could make it and two that would do it in response to wanting something from us.

It's a grunt type sound they can make in their throat, if you look at their throat when they do it, it is very noticable.

For some reason, they do it when in water more than out of water and we think that is how so many of our girls learned to do it. Those five are older and go in their kiddie pool together, which is where the first one started doing it and the other four learned it from her. The first one is so loud now, it is more of a bark than a grunt and she does it mostly when she thinks the other girls are doing something they shuold not be doing in the pool.

Two of the girls went to friends in other states and they have continued to make the noise for them also. The male does it often in acknowledgement of us doing something he likes, like putting him into the sunshine or covering him with his blanket at night

Here is a picture of one we caught as she started to do the throat thing to make the sound
