It probably was a sound that we think all beardies can make, but do not know they can.
We have 1 male and 5 females that could make it and two that would do it in response to wanting something from us.
It's a grunt type sound they can make in their throat, if you look at their throat when they do it, it is very noticable.
For some reason, they do it when in water more than out of water and we think that is how so many of our girls learned to do it. Those five are older and go in their kiddie pool together, which is where the first one started doing it and the other four learned it from her. The first one is so loud now, it is more of a bark than a grunt and she does it mostly when she thinks the other girls are doing something they shuold not be doing in the pool.
Two of the girls went to friends in other states and they have continued to make the noise for them also. The male does it often in acknowledgement of us doing something he likes, like putting him into the sunshine or covering him with his blanket at night
