Hi everyone!
Are these rare?
Any known health problems due to albinism?
Any special care needs?
Any pics?
Whats thier Value?
Im thinking about one for a pet. Not to breed.
Thanks
Mike

The rule of thumb is,
albinos are NOT good to have. They are usually genetically weaker, have difficulty thermo-regulating, are more prone to stress since they are unable to 'blend in' and hide in their own environment, and are often WAY overpriced by sellers who sensationalize them.
I've seen an albino iguana picture once. I thought it was the ugliest thing I've ever seen. But heym if you have the money, and the will, go for it.
If I were you?
I'd get a normal one who needs a good home, and will be just as enjoyable, if not more, minus the rarity factor.

the few that I have seen for sale have been like $20,000
well that's what i HAVE seen...there's actually 3 in the classifieds for 2500. so nevermind...of course that's still a lot
Another handicap not mentioned is that albino lizards often have vision problems. I have seen a couple of adult albino iguanas in person and didn't find them at all attractive.
Agree.
Honestly, they are just poor ugly ducklings.
The price tag is insane. With that amound you can get an iguana, and build a mega-enclosure, and with the money left, pay the Vet bills.
But hey, beauty is in the eye of the beholder right?
This post is in response to Iguana Joe.
Albinos are perfectly fine to keep. They are not genetically weaker, they do not have trouble thermoregulating, and they have no idea that they can't blend in.
The reason the price is so high is because they're so rare. Diamonds are worth more than copper. Supply and Demand. If a breeder were to hatch 6 albino igs and sale them all for 25 bucks ea.....Well, I'd have to smack him around. The herper who buys an albino ig is not the same customer that goes to their local pet store and buys a "cute little lizard" from the ignorant sales person. If you google images for "albino iguana" it will come up with a few. They are hardly ugly in my opinion, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

i was just curious. Someone wanted to trade me one for my albino sharp strain boas.
I agree a regular iguana is much prettier.
I read in some of the post on this forum, people bathe thier iguana everyday.
Is that a requirment?
It does seem like alot of work to keep an iguana.
I assume they need fed everyday?
Cage cleaning daily?
my snakes are much easier to maintain.
if i had more time, id love to own one, but untill im ready for that commitment i better just think long and hard on it.
Thanks guys
Mike
