Is my fat tail stressed out?

mom2pharoah Jul 10, 2005 10:06 PM

This is kinda strange, but if anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.

The heat lamp bulb spontaneously exploded today and the bulb fell on top of our fat tailed gecko. He isn't visibly hurt, but since it happened he is non-stop licking at the glass and licking every drop of water he can find. This is strange because these guys are not into drinking that much. I sprayed more water and he just won't stop licking.

He is also acting a little....strange, noticing his reflection in the glass where normally he ignores it.

I'm hoping that he is stressed out from the falling bulb, or perhaps is he going crazy?

I know this is a odd question, but my son and I are a little worried, as we really love this incredible pet of ours.

Thanks,
Kerri

As to the little fella's desire to drink everything you put in front of him .........I really haven't got a clue. I know it's not funny Does he have a water dish, and do you keep it full? Will he use that, or does he just want to lick water droplets? I would just give him a spritz or two now and then. The sudden urge for excess water will most likely wear off. As far as the new intrest in his reflection............is he sexually mature? I have two males that until they "came of age" didn't give a hoot about their reflection. Now they do spend a bit of time rubbin' noses with the guy in the glass, but with mine at least, it's in an effort to see what's outside the home. They spend alot of time lookin' up at the top of the tank, as if they're tryin' to figure out a way out. Just some thoughts. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

If so maybe he was burned. A burn on a lizard usually does not show up right away.
Maybe he is dehydrated! If hes really thirsty I would let him drink.

Let us know if the bulb was still hot
