Mold in tank....

Misskiwi67 Jul 10, 2005 10:35 PM

I've had my cage set up for 4 days now, and today I noticed there was mold in the tank!! It seems to be growing out from the corkbark pieces. Is this a problem, and if so, what can I do about it??? My mossies are arriving on tuesday, and I want everything perfect when they arrive...

might be your ventilation. but ill mention that sometimes i have that problem where a tiny bit of mold pops up after cleaning out a tank, but it doesnt go wild and eventually disappears. try not keeping the substrate as moist.

You can also add a springtail and/or pill bug culture.

haha, i dont even have to add the springtails anymore...just wait a month after putting in a clean cage and they're already taking off. im workin on building up my pillbug culture right now, as the ones ive added to the tanks in the past quickly disappeared. saw some big pill bugs in florida while i was down there, along with some medium-sized roaches. shoulda brought some back, but i probably coulda gotten in trouble with all the run-ins with cops and park authorities.

They got into my grindleworm cultures for my fish. I always wanted to get RID of them... lol. Glad I can put them to good use!

Thanks!!!
