Well, it sounds like the start of a respiratory infection to me. The mites dont sound too good either. Just soaking the burm in water will not be suffiecient in treating the mites. YOu will need toget something like "provent-a-mite" or something like that to kill them. Some of these mites hide under the scales of the snake, there are pockets of air in which case means that they will not be drowned. As far as how she became ill, it sounds like you need to check your burms setup. What are her temps? Hot side and cool side? More importantly, what are the humidity levels. If the snake is staying in the water, and it is staying warm, the water could be boosting it's humidity thus soothing the snake a bit more. That being said, she doesnt want to leave. She certainly needs to see a reptile vet ASAP. If you are afraid of a bite, then you might want to consider a snake hook. While they are not exactly made for carrying around big pythons and so forth, they will help in manipulating the animal and possibly prevent a bite.
Good Luck,
Chris
