Hi Folks:
I am a longtime lurker who has learned a great deal about building cages from this forum. Unfortunately, due to family commitments, I do not have the time to build a new cage for my lizards, so I have to go the commercial route.
I have 1.1 Angel Island Chuckwallas that I have kept in a 5x2x2 cage for the past 6 years (they are 7 years old). While the lizards are doing extremely well, I have not had breeding success with them, and after speaking with some other keepers, I think I need to put them in a larger enclosure. I am looking for a cage with dimensions 8wx3dx3h. In researching different options, it looks like my main alternatives are cages by Cages by Design (CbD) and JWorlds. I am wondering if anyone has had experiences with either of these manufacturers. The CbD cages seem pretty good, although I am concerned that they can hold the weight of the substrate and rocks. I am also not sure how the laminate that they use will look (my wife insists that the cages have to look really nice...I built a couple of large oak cages about 15 years ago that still look great and which have held up well). The JWorlds cages look very nice but are very expensive and may be too difficult to break down if I ever have to move them.
Anyway, any feedback on these companies, or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. As I said, this forum is by far the best spot to get insight on cage building...someone should distill the posts and use them to write a book on cage construction (I still have my booklet "Reptile Cages You Can Build" that I got in 1975 and used the designs as the basis for some of the cages that I built back in the old days!).
Thanks for your help!
Bart
