What am I doing wrong with my eggs?!?!

crotaphytusman Jul 11, 2005 01:31 AM

My female has layed 5 clutches now the first one I missed (not my fault) and I lost the next three for some reason and I just don't know why. I have them at 82-84 in vermiculite with a ~1:1 ratio and they seem to make it to where they start to dent in and thats as far as they go. The last clutch I looked at had fully developed but didn't hatch out. This is the first year for my female but I don't think that would have anything to do with it. I have two more eggs that are on day 27 that look really good still but only time will tell. Any info or tips from anyone would be great. They are C. Collaris eggs. Thanks!

lol, i bet if you go back to last october and this past may, you will find posts of mine saying the EXACT same thing. last year was my first year and i was 0/25 and with this year i am 3/33 or (3/8 for this year alone). the three i did get to hatch, when i was digging them up i accidently flung two of them across the cage and the one i had not hurt was pink spot up so i laid the other two that way and they hatched. all the others i had kept exactly how the girls laid them and they all died, at least 6 of them had babies in them that died. i am starting to think i need to forget the way they lay them and only go with the pink spot up.
don't give up, you will eventually get some to hatch. i did not think it was true, just ask eve.

Hello, If the eggs go full term and fail to hatch my guess is that the mother didn't get enough calcium or vitamin d or that she was too cool while carrying the eggs. The babies sometimes don't have the strength to hatch. I hope this helps. Good luck.
