I have a baby beardie, between 2 and 3 months.
How hot should his basking spot be? How hot is "too hot"?
He eats like a little pig! And seems to be settling in ok.

that the basking spot for a baby should be hotter than for an adult: 110-115 degrees F. My baby beardie doesn't stay very long under her spotlight unless it's in the morning or she has just eaten. Otherwise, she stays under her (not so hot) UVB bulb most of the time. She can always go to the cool side (85 degrees F) if she gets too hot.
Someone told me that too.
I didn't think a difference of 10 degrees would cause
any problems.
Most things I have read about lizards and snakes are the same,
just a very minor dif. in temps
I just don't want to get it too hot in there. It would really suck if I cooked him

My basking spot temp doesn't get quite that high either. She's in a 20 gallon tank right now and I don't want the warm side getting too warm. My spotlight is more like 100-105 degrees with the warm side of the tank staying from 90-96 degrees.
the basking temp should be 105-110 degrees.for proper digestion,
be sure that the cool side is 70-80 degrees.....and be sure he gets enough water, mist him or use an 'eye dropper'
are you using a UVB bulb? and supplements
dont use 'undertank heaters' or heat rocks......
hope this helps

I know about hot rocks and mats, and vitamins, this is not my first herp.
Just my first Beardie
I have to get a "SUN" bulb.
For now he only has a basking spot. I can take him outside for
sun until next pay day.
Thanks for your help.

you are looking to get at least a basking temp of 105, a dragon needs a gut temp of 103 to digest their food. Ideally a temp of 105-115 is good, i have one dragon that likes to sit at 105 and another that likes to sit at 115-120 it does depend on the dragon. On your cool side you want an ambient temp of 85, no less then 80, hope that this helps some, with proper temps, you wont cook your dragon
just be careful to keep your temps checked with the summer heat, ambient room temps will up your basking temps and you may have to move to a lower wattage bulb.

Thanks for the input.
Summer temps are a real pain. I've really had to watch
my critters this season, especially the snake.
