You want pics, you got 'em!

The first egg started to hatch yesterday evening (sometime before 7 pm). In the first pic, you can see a distinctive crack in the egg. The camera doesn't really show it but a nostril and a little mouth were visible through the crack.

The second pic was taken at about 2 am this morning. A head is clearly visible sticking out of the egg. I figured this baby would probably be fully hatched out by morning. I was right.

holy cow, that is so exciting!! and that baby is so cute and so tiny. it really is amazing that they grow as much as they do. he looks absolutely adorable. i don't know how it is with uros but with my collared babies, it was recommended to give them lots of calcium and offer water until they eat on their own so they don't dehydrate. congrats, again!

Congrats and welcome Ramses! Hard to believe that he came from that little egg.

I'm curious, what is that you used in the incubator for substrate and was it an incubator that you made or "store" bought one?

Also, I've read that you should feed the feces(sp) from a healthy male to the hatchlings. Are you planning on doing that? I'd like to know how that goes.

Congrats again!

>>Also, I've read that you should feed the feces(sp) from a healthy male to the hatchlings.

Is it specifically from males? I thought it was any healthy adult that hadn't been medicated recently. Do the males have something different about their feces?

I used perlite instead of vermiculite for the incubation medium. I prefer perlite because I find it doesn't stay "wet" for long periods of time like vermiculite does. I haven't had to add much water to it throughout incubation.

The incubator was a store-bought Hovabator (without the turbofan). I didn't have time to attempt an improvised homemade incubator, nor did I want to. I was afraid of too much temperature variation which could be potentially fatal for the eggs.

I am attempting to feed them now (they're not hungry yet though) and yes, I am going to feed adult feces to the little ones. It doesn't matter if the adult is male or female, as long as it is healthy and hasn't been treated with any medication recently.

I still have one more egg to go and it is quite a bit larger than the other two were. By candling, I can see the baby inside is the same size as the other two right now. The yolk hasn't been absorbed yet (the egg has shown no signs of collapse yet), so I suspect this one will take a while longer (a week or more maybe). He might even wind up being bigger than the other two.

I hope this helps
