Pattern may indicate male or female in saharan hatchlings?

gexy Jul 11, 2005 09:16 AM

I was comparing my uromastyx geyri hatchlings and noticed that some had the dark marbling pattern similar to what an adult male would have on their bellies and some didn't have any. I wondered if this could be an indication of male and female?

Beats me, but I've got adult females with black/grey accents on their bellies like that and a sub-adult male that has an almost completely white belly. I wouldn't attempt to guarantee anything.

Don't know for sure, but I know with many species, their coloration will change as they mature. As adult geryi, it's a safe bet that the ones with the marbling would be the males.
