Feed them living or dead food?

dragoneye Jul 11, 2005 10:44 AM

My friend that has a monitor refuses to feed it living food any more because the lizard tears it appart and makes a HUGE mess.... im assuming that since this lizard is carniverous i should watch out when feeding it small mice and such?

He doesn't feed stuff that's still alive? Or he kills the mouse/rat first and then feeds it?

I've got a black throat monitor and three frilleds, which all of them eats mice/rats. More so the monitor than the frilled, of course. But neither of them makes any kind of mess with the rodents.

I wouldn't feed anything live though, just pre-killed, just because of the risk of injury to the reptile.
