THIS IS LAUGHABLE---NY Regulations.

Received the new Wild Animal Possession Permit Application in the mail today.

--$175/ANIMAL!
-- Only one animal allowed per license.

I can't wait to talk to Special Licenses. This will be amusing. UN-FRIGGIN'-believable!! Well, it says they cannot be bred for use as pets, so I guess I'll be selling to zoos only anymore. Oh well, I can live with that.

I NEVER thought I'd say this Matt, but we may as well say screw it and pay the fine.....it'll be cheaper. It's not like it matters anymore with the way states are dropping. That leads me to a a new post........

...they have to tax every thing they can get their grubby paws on, in order to pi$$ it away on bureacratic waste, and some academic's drawn out boring research. Of course, when real conservation can be done voluntarily in the public sector, its too often frowned upon----God forbid we're discovering new box turtle and blanding's turtle populations, but they really don't mean anything---the turtles must really not be there, because we're not PhD's!!!!!

What a joke! Its a sad attempt by legislators to justify their own existance. Sad but true.

The law makers have to pay some how for their pay raise.

"and some academic's drawn out boring research"

I sense a hint of jealosy. You think a couple of amatuers could have done what Lamar and Campbell did with "The Venomous Reptiles of the Western Hemisphere." Or maybe this is the first time you've heard of this book.

It's depressing how some people can have so little respect for state sponsored research, and yet they want us to pity them for having to pay a fine.

..it has to do with specifically with local projects in NY. Not getting into details. The jist of which is several new populations of herps, being studied, discovered and monitored by private individuals, purely through volunteer work.

redbellyhunter Jul 12, 2005 08:38 PM

Ok I see what you are saying. Yeah I'm not sure why such volunteer work may be looked down upon.

...not fines. I have heard of the book, though since only one volume is essentially pitvipers, I've not found a need to buy it. As most of the literature on bushmasters, I've compiled from the original sources, I've not found the need to buy the 2-volume set. I do however, have the original 1989 volume.

I do wish, however, the re-classification of C. durissus/simus, had been done based on actual DNA analysis(i.e., See Wuster, Molecular Ecology, 2005), and not simply a glitch in nomenclature. I've never met Dr. Lamar, but do know he's been a useful source of information in assisting us with a crocodile census project I'm involved with in Costa Rica.
