URGENT!!!!

butters11 Jul 11, 2005 01:40 PM

Hello
My baby savannah monitor recently has been acting very strange. He used to be very active and out all the time and three of his toe claws are sticking straight out instead of how they normally hook back. He gets plenty of food and nutrients and is kept at right temps and humidity. Will his toes ever go back to normal?

Ok, you told us about his claws, not his behaviour.......and it would help if you could post pics of his claws, I'd like to see this.

Joe,

My guess from the information you gave us is that your monitor's toes stick out because of an improper shed either presently or earlier. When hatchlings are not given enough access to water(either by having a soak tub or a humid enclosure), the skin may be not be shed properly and may constrict the toes of smaller animals. I have seen young Savannah's missing part of their toes or the toe altogether due to this condition. Once again, I believe this may be the problem, but please correct me(anyone out there) if this is not the case. A high humidity high box and a small water bowl for the monitor to soak may help this problem.
Thanks,
Matthew Schaefer
