It kind of depends on how "new" your dragon is. They are prone to stress over even minor changes in environment. A "new" specimen should be left alone for at least a week and handled only to be fed. It's best to have the habitat set-up prior to purchase. Simple things like moving things around in the cage or moving things in the room that are visible from the cage can stress them. Other pets in their environment can also stress them until they get used to them. A stressed dragon hides (many times in the water dish) and darkens in color (probably because they hide in a cooler area). They will also refuse food until they feel more secure. If this information doesn't fit with your dragon, then he may be ill. Parasites can cause lethargy and loss of appetite, so if he hasn't had a recent (one year) fecal it would be good idea to have him checked.

actually he never goes into the water and is basking in the light. but he never eats, but he probably needs to settle in more. should i try wax worms? ive been feeding him crickets

Gutloaded crickets are fine and better for him than the waxies. Just make sure his temps and humidity are within acceptable parameters and allow him to get used to his surroundings. If he's basking and doesn't scramble away when you enter the room he's already doing pretty well! Good luck.
