RES and duckweed?

goini04 Jul 11, 2005 02:36 PM

Hey all,

I was wondering if there is any known problems with RES's eating duckweed? I have duckweed in my pond that is there for (somewhat for looks) my gators. I have noticed that my turtles enjoy eating it. Is duckweed bad for them in any way that anyone has noticed?

Duckweed is fine. But from your post I got the message that you are housing RES's and Gators together? I dont think that is such a good idea. Even with a small gator and a large RES, the RES can loose a tail or limb.

Hi thanks for the response. No I normally put the turtles in another area when the alligators are inhabiting it. In all honesty, I am not worried about the turtles because they alligators are not aggressive towards them. However, I feel sorry for any birds that come down to drink. The reason I move the turtles is because my RES bites the toes and end of the tail of my alligators and it royally Pi$$e$ them off.
Thanks,

chris
