Okeetee Corns- The best of the Best and a few questions....

Keith Hillson Jul 11, 2005 03:25 PM

Ive been kickin around the idea of getting some Okeetee Corns. I want animals that are large (or eventually get decent sized) and are deep orange and red with nice black borders. I know there are a few recognized lines out there like Howie Shermans, Lee Abbott and Tom Chaing(not sure about the last one)and of course the Kathy Love's line of Okeetee's. Any others Im missing ? What is the general consensus on whats the best line for color, size and lack of hidden mutations. Also post pics of your Okeetee's if you have them. Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Keith Hillson

Well Keith, I my vote would be for the Abbott line of Okeetee corns. I have seen some VERY nice Okeetee corns from that line. The borders are THICK and black!! Nice.

Although the other breeders you mentioned are top notch as well, just that I like the Abbott line the best.
Sorry no pics, dont have any Okeetee's.

Here is a pic of my 03 Okeetee male from Howie Sherman. Howie's breeders are very large. His adults are listed to average 4 to 6 feet. Plus they are also locality specific to Jasper, SC.
Here is my 03 male I purchased last year from Howie at one of the Virginia shows. He is pretty close to four feet, and is still growing at a very fast pace/Frequent sheds. Mine has average thickness as far as black borders, some of his have thicker ones.

I picked this guy out because he had the best pure white bellie from head to tail, with, of course, the nice black checkerboard pattern that comes with it. Some others tend to have more orange influx in the last third of the snakes ventral area, which may or may not matter to most people.

Hey Keith, here's a pic an Abbott Okeetee. He's my male breeder. Got 22 Okeetee eggs in the "oven". I'll post a pic of the female later, she's also a very light orange/pinkish with red blotches and over four feet long.

I searched for 12 years before I finally bought some Okeetees, because I always wanted to find a nice one that looked like the ones in the books or magazines. At a herp show in '03, I finally found some on a table that put to shame my "standards". I bought 5.
They were Abbotts Okeetees at South Mountain's table. The male is on the branch. The other is the female. I have better pics that I can send to you by e-mail if you want. I am still figuring out my new digital camera. lol

Here is my '03 Abbott okeetee from Lee Abbott. I see Lee at almost all of the central Fla. area shows - his adults just stop me in my tracks every time I see them! And Lee himself is a great guy, it's a pleasure doing business with him.
