lele Jul 11, 2005 04:53 PM

To Sonia and others who live in the tropics just checking in to make sure all is well. I'll take our snowstorms any day!

We actually stayed at the beach with a relative who lives there during the storm. The hurricane stayed pretty far from us around 200 miles away but the surf looked more like Hawaii than Florida.
We usually get dinky waves in the gulf but we even had people surfing.
The shoreline moved almost to the building we were in but did not get over the sea wall.
Not only that we even had some downed trees and damage from some tornadoes in the area but not where I was staying. Some huge metal light posts all broken in half at a golf course. All that and it stayed really far away from us.
I can't imagine the damage it would have caused if it actually hit us. The funny thing is your snow and ice photo above scares me more than the hurricanes. I would have to wear one of those bright orange survival suits constantly if I lived where you do. I would probably walk outside, go into a hypothermic stupor and just topple over into the snow and they would have to keep dragging me inside and thawing me out. I would need to wear the bright snow suit so they could find me each time my metabolism slowed to a halt.

glad everyone is OK. From the looks of it I wasn't too worried about you and my mom (Venice). Even with the damage it doesn't seem to be as bad as last year!

I grabbed that snow pic off the web (shhh....) I was being lazy and didn't want to upload one of mine. So, you won't come visit next February or March? Chicken!! - lol! My brother was born in NY but they moved to FL when he was 3 and he has never been in snow (he's 37!) I am going to ease him into it and have them come up the first time in the fall.

You know, I can actually picture you all bundled up in a hot pink snowsuit like the little kids. They get so bundled their arms and legs just stick out straight - and they fall down a lot! hahaha!

OK, maybe without the pacifier! (yup, stole this of the web, too)

You can put me in a pink snowsuit. You can stuff a pacifier in my mouth. You can post my picture all over the web for the whole world to laugh at me. But when you do my hair up so crazy like that- now you've gone too far!!!!! DANGIT!

I said neon orange snow suit not PINK! Can you just picture me in that getup! I would rather be hung by my toenails than dressed in that thing! Ha ha ha ha ha
Well maybe my arms and legs would stick out like that in a snow suit but do we have to picture me in that pink monstrosity.
Can't I get one a bit more, more, well a bit more something. How about red? Maybe I would be better off in a red one.
I have never seen snow either. Well actually I did once but it was when it snowed in tampa and about 1/2 inch covered the ground and it all melted by noon. Not only that I was asleep when it actually was falling and no one had the sense to wake me up so I could see it.
We would have to start me out really slow and work up to snow. Like maybe I could open the freezer and look inside for 5 minutes or so and work from there.

Okay okay, I live in Arizona, far removed from the storms; I'll take any 'how are you doing's thrown ANYWHERE near my direction.
And no, I'm not making light of the severe weather back East! Hey, I'm standing here barefoot 'cause my shoes just melted on the 120 blacktop out there! I'm no stranger to severe weather.
JK about my shoes- they're melty, but ok. :P

Bernie had me put up some bamboo screening on our back porch for extra shade. She figured that if we waited until after sundown, it would be cool enough to allow us to work out there. It was still 100 at 9pm, and here I am- outside on my backporch, hammering bamboo fencing to our backporch trellis for added shade.
My poor dogs. If they had voices, I know what they would say:
You lousy @#$% *&%%!! It's about time you get off your hide and give us some relief.
No, prolly not. They were very happy and confused to see me out there at that hour.

Actually the air went out in my van and I have been driving around without it.
I had one of those min max thermometers in the van and the other day I hit the max temp to see how hot it actually gets inside while it is parked outside.
158F Yep now that is hot! Can you believe some morons actually leave pets and kids outside a store in a parked car and then wonder what happened to them.
