Pics of my Hypo-Brooksi Post-Shed..

Kinglvr Jul 11, 2005 04:53 PM

Hey everybody, I finally got some decent pictures of my baby (well, about 1/2 year old)hypo-brooksi. I know they're not a very rare species of King, but I still think it's one of the most beautiful, and I know looking at some of your pics, some of you like them too! Take a look, hope you like.

Thanks for the comments so far guys. ZF, it's funny that you mention that. It's ground color is yellowish (with a slight hint of green to it), but since I've bought him/her, I've noticed that there is a little bit of reddish orange coming in on it's backside. The pics don't really do the snake justice. Once again, thanks a lot guys for responding. Happy herping.

Commonly a Hypo Brooksi is born with lots of red/orange and little yellow. As the snake gets older the red/orange tends to fade and the yellow takes over. There are exceptions to this though....some will retain some red/orange into adulthood.
The first pic below is of a huge 68 inch male hypo brooks.
The second pic is of my Tim Ricks hypo baby that still has its red/orange coloration.
The third pic is a male hypo brooks around 46 inches that has some of its orange coloration still. He is striped as well.

Thanks for the pics Jlassiter and the info. I hope my snake retains it's coloration for as long as possible, but if the yellow takes over, so be it. I'm gonna love this snake 'til it dies. It's my first snake ever and I couldn't be happier. It's temperament is incredible. Never musked me, striked at me, defecated/regurgitated on me or hissed at me (well, actually he/she did a couple times).Even though I've only owned it about a month and a half! I actually think it's beginning to like me though. lol I'll be taking it to ARC reptile house nearby my place this weekend to get it sexed (I'm too much of a novice to have the courage to do it myself), I can't take this "it" thing anymore.

Sorry for the rambling post, I'm just really happy to be involved in this wonderful hobby now.

One of my best breeder males. He has little hint of red and no pattern. When I breed him to one of my females I get bright, deeply red babies. Some of those keep the red and some fade to a pinkish orange look.
When I breed him to another female, I get the straw colored, brownish babies that turn deeper yellow as they mature.

That snakes definitely a looker! I love it. (Looks angry in that pic though )Could you possibly post a pic of both females you mate him with? Preferably the female that crossed with him make the red babies. Are the females hypo brooksis' as well?

crimsonking Jul 11, 2005 08:48 PM

This is the one when bred to him gives me the reddest babies. In the laying pic it appears that she is much darker than she really is.
It also plays out that this line (female) will produce the more aberrant looks with the most red, broken patterns, and partial "striping" as seems to be the case with others'.

..that produces the more straw brown/yellow babies. Also she will give me babies with a more clean classic pattern.
A bit more yellow in this pic than she really is, she does seem to lighten/darken up periodically throughout the year. Some of my other Florida kings seem to do that too. Especially wc.
There are some other pics I'm sure on one of my pic sites

Actually (believe it or not)I didn't like her as much as the other one -- at first.. [smacks head]..
Now she's one of my favorites.
I really love looking at the head patterns on the FL kings. This one... I can't get past the two aliens sharing a bong or whatever on her head!!!

Here is another pic of my Tim Ricks hypo Brooksi.....It is more recent than the baby pic. Since the pic he has lost more of the red/orange pigmentation.....
Thanks for looking,

How old is that snake? Have you measured it to get a roundabout figure on it's length?

jlassiter Jul 11, 2005 07:13 PM

In the pic he is around 18 inches.....Now he is over two feet.

Kinglvr Jul 11, 2005 07:15 PM

You don't know that snakes age? I'm just wondering because mine is about 20-21inches and the lady I bought it from said he was about 5 months old (very early '05 or VERY late '04).

jlassiter Jul 11, 2005 07:26 PM

Yes, I know the snake's age...You asked for the length....It is a 2004 as yours is too probably.
