"Unintentional Field Herping"

cherribomb Jul 11, 2005 06:08 PM

This is slightly off topic, so I hope no one gets upset...just thought I'd share

I did some "Unintentional Field Herping" this morning (living near nature, UFH is pretty common)

I hit the alarm off at 6AM, groggily grabbed a towel, and headed for the shower. Completely naked and without my much needed AM coffee, I turned around...and there was this rather large, seasoned-looking Alligator lizard staring at me....We both looked at each other like "What on earth are YOU doing in here?!" For half a second I thought one of my leos had pulled a houdini. Luckily the bathroom has a door to outside so I heaved open the door and popped the little guy outside...all while desperately trying not to flash the neighbors!

Definitely made my day a little more interesting

Thankyou for sharing that with us lol. Glad we don't have nothing like that here in the UK although we could do with some gorgeous girls flashing a bit more!

I'm sorry but I had to laugh at that. I don't know what I'd do if I had an alligator in my bathroom but knowing me I'd catch it and take it to the pet store that I go to so that the person that deals with the herps there would have a new pet lol. Then again my dog would have probably chewed the poor alligator to bits before I could even catch it, she likes to eat herps that are outside or that aren't from the tanks in my house even though I try to keep her from doing it. Just make sure that you watch for it when it gets bigger so it doesn't make a snack out of your arm or leg.

Very interesting. I've never heard anything like that before. But I live in a big city so alligator lizards don't appear much in Fort Wayne,IN; come to think about unfortunately neither does women flash people

NOt to be mean, but to correct, it is a small lizard that is nowhere near the size of alligators. Just so you know....

I have no idea what's going on. It's more fun that way.

LOL...yes, that's the guy!

They only get up to 21"...just under 2 feet long here (including tail) but still large enough that they're not something you particularly want to be trapped in a small bathroom with!!

I live in Northern Ca alligator lizards are all over the place here and so are blue bellies. Right after I moved here I caught an alligator lizard the day before I got my first leo. I might have misread the post which is possible since my house is crazy with my parrot talking my dogs playing and all my herps wanting my attention too. In fact my dog likes to chase and try to eat alligator lizards when she sees them. I probably have a nest not to far from my house at the moment and more than likely in my garage too.
