This Ball Python thing can pay off......

reptilebasics Jul 11, 2005 06:14 PM

Bought my male spider early last season and it looked like I ended up paying way too much by the end of the season. Well, maybe not. Seems the extra month or two was worth it!

Not even remotely close to the most extensive collection of ball python morphs in captivity!

Well, I dont think I will have a lot of trouble recovering atleast my initial investment out of these 6. In fact one is already sold and has covered roughly 30% of that. Yes, the price will take a further beating this year. For those that thought they could buy one or two snakes and make a fortune in one season, generally speaking you can't. If I pay for him this season and he breeds twice as many females next season it really wont matter what the price falls to. Money will be made. There are going to be alot of heartbreaking falls in price this year in the co dom market. Mojaves and a couple of others would seemed poised for greatness in that regard. I will still more than likely get one (mojave) this year. Reptile breeding is a long haul business. I know plenty of people that get into it for the $$ that they think they will make quick. They arent there. I know lots of the that lost their ass trying .

been playing with snakes for 34 years........keeping them as pets since ? 79'.......breeder since 1991.......hundreds of them a year.......yes...you can lose your butt....I never went out on a limb to lose it..........but money is relevant to what you want........as long as you make money and have enough to get a new morph a year you will be happy and have a good time as well as a good collection....selling spiders and mojaves for $1000 ...even $500 will still pay for $50 of rats a year per snake............I always have money and I sold hundreds of snakes...for roughly $10 to $20 each (corns)..hundreds add up..........hell.........I threw awy 300 eggs this year........yet hatching one good batch of 4.8 het albino balls will give you enough money for alot of stuff.....add some albinos, ghosts and pastels.....no problem.....and I will only blow a little piece on balls........the rest goes to whatevr I want, antique stonewares and all kinds of other things........

good luck.........you'll be making spiders for 20 years now.......add bumblebees (better than most morph colors).......aaaaaaaah........

am I rambling?..........good night..............LOL

300 bad eggs again? Geez Jeff, I don't know ANYONE that has as many bad eggs as you, even people that hatch more....... time to start asking yourself 'what am I doing wrong?' Past time actually.....

He may not get the SAME amount on EACH one but He will KILL it in a Total, and guess what he still has the adult male..... GOOD LUCK... This year alone I made more off my baby pastels than I paid for all my pastel breeders and I am sure I will make even more next season, well this coming season 2005-2006. Thanks David

I haven't been a big fan of the spiders, but they are starting to grow on me!
Congrats, and good luck moving those pretty little spiders!
