Vitamin A dosage info in Leopard Tortoises

sacredpurr Jul 12, 2005 09:23 AM

Hello, Looking for dosage info on Vitamin A for baby( 6-11) month old Leo torts. Or if someone can direct me to the right place for the info that would be great. Also how do you get the torts to eat the hay and pellets. I have soaked mine left it dry and added it to the greens but my young leo doesn't want to eat it. Any advice in getting him to like it would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi EJ,
Do you mean shredded carrot? I can do that no problem. The baby( swollen eyes) is doing better finally. His eyes stay open alot more now and he ate fairly good last night. I took him out in the grass and he tried to eat a leaf. And walked around alittle in the sun then back in the house to soak and then in his nice hot enclosure. I'll keep trying the pellets and hay maybe he will eat it if I really mix it up in the carrots and greens. But I am just happy there is slight improvement! I'll keep you posted. Thanks for all your help so far. Pictures are coming of him( without closed eyes). Deb

You can use cod liver oil also...a drop in/on the eyes. This can also be given orally a few drops once a week until the problem clears up. As with anything use in moderation.

the oil in the eyes, in addition to the mess, attracts debris to the eye, which is a problem in itself.

this may be the case...but when there is an obvious problem that can be seen.... carrots are too slow, but once the problem has been got in hand...carrots. But even those in moderation.
