Corn has not laid eggs yet... How long does it take???

Colorfulcorns Jul 12, 2005 01:08 PM

I have an okeetee female that has not laid her eggs yet and i was wondering how longs it normally takes.
I warmed her up in April.
She mated on April 28.
Her first shed was on May 15.
Her second shed was on June 18.
She is about twice the size she was when I warmed her up.
She has a hide box with moist spagnum moss in it.
Is she still in the "eating period" before pre-natal shed?
If anyone needs the dates and amounts that she has eaten I will post them.

Thanks,

Cory

Well, be patient - you never know. I had an eastern king that didn't mate until JUNE lay 14 eggs in mid August last year!!! Babies didn't hatch until October, but I was 14 out of 14!!! That was pretty late considering that all my other snakes laid in May and June that year. I would be ready though, could happen any time. Can you feel any lumps when you let the female's belly glide over the tips of your fingers? That's a sure sign of eggs (if the lumps are very numerous and evenly spread apart). Hope that helps. . .

Yes i can feel lumps, at my best guess i would say about 12.
I also noticed today that her belly scales have turned grayish, so she will be shedding in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully this is the pre-natal shed.

If you can feel lumps, then yes the pre-laying shed is on (And you definetely have eggs)! Most snakes lay eggs between 10-12 days after shedding (some lay a little earlier as early as a week after, so be ready soon!) GOOD LUCK!
