Trying not to panic....please help!!

AlteredMind99 Jul 12, 2005 06:32 PM

I feel like such an idiot!

I have been syringe feeding hanny her parazap, and what i usually do with all my syringe feeders is put a small piece of aquarium hosing on the end of the tube so they dont hurt their jaws chomping on the syringe.

Well, i put a small (less than 1/4in) piece of tubing on the end of the syringe and as i gave Hanny her parazap she pulled it off and swallowed it!!!

Do you think she will need surgery to get it out?

I immediately gave her 2cc mineral oil to help lubricate it along and hopefully be passed out. i have seen her pass chunks of bugs or veggies about that big or larger in her stools before...but im so worried.

Its awful, she is just starting to act better...finally giving me some poop...and now i go and do this!!!

Im so close to panicing now!

I wouldn't panic. I'd give it a day or so then if it isn't passed take her to the vet.

Take a deep breath and relax....it's ok. The same thing happened to me a few weeks ago when I was giving Gordo his medicine...he just bit the tip right off. I called my vet hysterical. They said it would pass in a few days and it did. It just passed naturally. I don't know how it will go with Hanny considering her poo problem...but I don't think it would cause anything serious. Best to check with your vet though...to be safe.

(P.S.- Yes to the Pedialyte from the other thread. Also, the acidopholiz for reptiles come in a liquid form you can give them orally or in their food. You can also get it in powder or capsule form for humans and use that too.)

Stare at me with empty eyes and
Point your words at me
Mirror on the wall will show you
What you're scared to see
I can see, yeah, wish I couldn't see at all
I can feel- Wish I couldn't feel at all
Hate to see- Wish I couldn't see at all
Hate To Feel- Wish I couldn't feel at all
So climb walls,
Thin my blood now
And I crawl, back to bed now

When Gordo ate that did he strain to defecate at all or was everything normal?

Today hanny tried to defecate and she was straining and pushing but barely anything came out.

I called Dr. Guerrino...im afraid she is going to havce to have surgery

I think it will depend on the actual diameter of the tube and how it went down. If it went down length wise and is very small in diameter, it may come out naturally. However, getting a vet to x-ray her to see just how the tube went down and if it did lodge somewhere in the lower intestine, is the best thing to do. It could cause alot of damage if it goes down wrong, including obstruction of the bowel. I hope things go well for you.
