*Possible* Pregnant Beardie Not Eating?

drunkmike Jul 12, 2005 07:11 PM

I *might* have a preg momma on my hands (its only been a few days since I *saw* it happen) she is in a new cage and has been there since it happened, and up until today she has been eating like a pig (normal for her). I mean she had it down to a few doz large crix a day and then tear up a bowl of greens and look at me for more, but today at cricket time I put her in the feeding cage, dropped a few dusted crix in and she ate 3-4 of them then just stopped and layed there not interested anymore. She has done an awful lot of basking today and usually runs around alot during this time and is still just basking around. Her bell looks considerably larger, almost bloated but when I pick her up I dont feel anything in there and she has had a bowell movement since I fed her yesterday. Should I worry about her? I mean she is perky and very aware of whats going on around her, just its odd that this is pretty much the first time since I have owned her that she hasnt physically attacked me at the sight of food lol. She did have a bit more crix yesterday then she is used to. Think it could just be that she is still full? Temps are fine. *shrug* Maybe I'm being paranoid. I just dont want anything to happen to momma. Thanks all!

I wouldn;t worry just yet. See how she feels tomorrow, keep track of her bowels, if she hasnt passed a bowel in a 2-4days you may have a problem. try some warm water bathes and gentle tummy massages.

If it hasn't been that long since she was bred then she shouldn't stop eating yet. Like you said may she's still full from yesterday. I know that I didn't feel or see any egg bulges until about two weeks before my girl laid her eggs then again I didn't know what I was looking for and I don't make it a habit to feel her stomach. My girl did stop eating exactly a week before she laid her eggs because its to uncomfortable for them to have food on their stomachs with all those eggs.

Well I have been thinking about it.. my girl isnt showing eggs yet, but she is swolen looking. almost like she is bloated. At first I thought I had 2 females until I saw them mating. I'm starting to wonder if maybe they had mated before I actually *caught* them and maybe this is the 1 week before she is ready to lay.. *shrug* she had a few crix a about a hour ago but nothing like she usually does.. almost like she wasnt even interested and was only eating them to make me happy. I guess I'll just have to keep an eye on her and see what happens

She may be almost ready to lay the eggs. If she starts digging like mad provide her with a laying bin.
They probably have been breeding way before you caught them.
