Can you use anything to keep their skin more moist? I have heard of lotion/baby oil being used, but wonder if this is ok. My torts look so much better when moist! Let me know what you think.

I've used baby oil before with no problems I also use Vita shell regularly or a hoof cream made by mane and tail. It is a horse product but u can usually find it in the lotion department of walmart.

Hi, Smeese and Casey,
I would have to recommend strongly against any products like Vitashell or other topical remedies---either for the shell (which is living tissue that needs to "breathe" to grow properly) and for the skin. They have been found to be harmful, and are clearly unnatural.
If you want to keep your tortoise looking "moist," keep it hydrated and provide it with microclimates so that it can regulate water loss.

Be careful.
Tortoises are used to desert climates. If you keep it moist it will most likely get a respiratory infection. If you use lotions or oils it will clog it's pores, also very unhealthy.
It would be like saying your dog looks better with no hair and shaving it every day. (not a good idea)
