Is this sulcata pyramiding?

hunterjackson Jul 12, 2005 09:17 PM

Here is a pic of the sulcata i am talkinga bout. he is about 9-10 months old. his diet consists of timothy hay, grass, a tad of mazuri, very little bit of collard greens, dusted with phos free calcium powder.

he has clean fresh water always, and is soaked nightly.

i greatly appreciate any help that you can offer!

thanks
hunter

He looks good to me. There might b a slight pyramiding but I think there is always some with captive sulcatas.

It looks like it is starting to pyramid but not badly. Your diet for the tortoise sounds perfect and it sounds as if the tortoise is well hydrated. That leaves one factor... Temperature.

Where are you located and at what temperatures do you keep the tortoise at?

I am located in south carolina. During it's day time period it has a spot of 100 deg, while ambient air temp is around 94 throughout the tank. at night, it dips down to around 74.

thanks for all of your help!

Again, it sounds perfect. Try raising the lower end temperature to 80 to 85 and make sure there is a humid hide.

I didn't look at the second and third shots. How long have you had him?

It looks like the recent growth is coming in pretty smooth. My suggestions could help but I'm guessing that over time you'll see that you've probably got it as good as it gets.
