I looked into it briefly and you have to contact U.S Fish and Wildlife, your State Game Commision and then you have to check local ordinances and of course you have to have an exporter in the country you wish to export from. I haven't checked into it any more than this but on the U.S Fish and Wildlife site are links to the Permits you have to fill out.
It is $50 per year and you just fill out an application, then they send you a renewal each year. I export some corn snakes every year and although it is a bit of a pain because you have to do it through a designated port (like Miami), you can either do the running around yourself, or just hire a broker to do it for you. I think you would probably want to hire a broker the first few times to help you through it, and then decide if you want to tackle it alone after you learn what is involved.
But if you want to import / export CITES animals such as boas and pythons, it is a little more complicated. In addition to the annual permit, you have to apply for CITES for each shipment. But I don't deal with that aspect for corns, so can't really give you any details about that process. But the US import / export license is a good place to start.
