Almost . . . but not quite.

Hey guys, here's another update. Well 7 out of 8 are out and looks like all of the hatchlings are Leonis phase. Sorry Chris, no Milksnake phases for now. I think I may have some in the next clutch of 16 eggs that will hatch any day now. Can't wait to see that clutch too. NOTE: 6 is under going their first shed process (including the red-orange one - still intense even in blue). And one that just came out today (on the right side of the group) is just a day or so behind. Most of them look identical although with varying intensity of orange. This group is ON FIRE!

This one worried me a little since it had not pipped when every one has cut their eggs open and have started to come out. So I cut the egg open last night to see if it's still ok. I poked it a little and it moved so I left it alone. He's been peaking out the whole day but is still hesitant to come out. Looks like another Leonis just taking its time. I wanted to to take a pic of the whole group but this one decided to fashionably late. Slowpoke...hehe.

The slowpoke came out when I woke up this morning. It took its time but look how fat this little one looks! I guess this one "wanted to get its money's worth" with the yolk reserve. Hope everyone enjoyed the pics so far.

It is as pretty (if not prettier) than its siblings.

Great job! When will you know the sex ratio?

Mike

Hi Mike, I usually check the sex after their first shed. Cross your fingers for me. Seems like everyone is looking for girls, hehe. Take care.

What a beauty.....It looks nice and clean too.
I will have to wait until the end of the month for mine to hatch out. I can't wait....
I also can't wait to see some of the after shed pics from all of you guys....
Congrats again,
John Lassiter

I agree with the others. Just an outstanding clutch of thayeri. That last one is a real beauty. Keep the pics flowing when the next clutch pops. Can't wait to see these after they shed too.

Chris

Yes. Definitely. This clutch has been a good start for me for this year's production. Hope it continues on through the second clutches. Thanks again for the nice compliments guys! I'm stoked! Take care.

Man Jonel, these babies are outrageous! The contrasting bold black borders are so nice when the animals are so clean, I can see you now.....

That's a keeper, that's a keeper, that's a keeper, that's a keeper, that's a keeper... lol... now WHO'S gonna be needing to expand that herp room soon?!!! lol!

Congrats in a BIG way. I know you are just about to pull your mexicana hair out waiting on that 16 clutch?

Great photo by the way, can't wait to see that bunch after they all shed out!

Yeah bro, tell me about it. But I think I'll jsut try to keep the best from each clutch......well you know what......i don't know! Kind of tough to call at this point. But we'll see. Gotta keep reminding my self that I can't keep them all. I can't keep them all!

In 2002 I initially held back 4.8 thayeri out of 30 hatchlings.
Those numbers eventually fell to 2.3
In 2003 I held back 2.5. That fell to 2.3 as well.
Last year I only held back one single female. I finally told myself..."they will make more"
It is still hard to sell them wondering if another one similar will eventually pop up again...it is hard not to be greedy...LOL

OUTSTANDING Jonel.....Great Job!
I must congratulate you on your first clutch. They are certainly some of the best.
BTW, when are you gonna breed those Chris Baubel Thayeri with the tiger looking patterns?????
I am contemplating picking some of them up from him this year if he is breeding them.
Again Congrats,
John Lassiter

jonellopez Jul 13, 2005 11:36 PM

Hi John, He's only a year old but he's feeding like a champ on rat pinks so I'll give him a try next year's rotation. But I'm sure he would definitely go in 07. I also have another female hold back that would around that time. She'll be 3 by then. I'm planing to breed him to the mother of these babies to see what pattern would result from the combination since she is thin saddled also.

Wow, that's a beautifully orange-tastic group of baby thayeri's!
Who would of thought that a variable thayeri kingsnake clutch could have such consistancy similar babies.
Way to go Jonel, they are all spectacular.
Congrats,
Uncloudy

jonellopez Jul 13, 2005 11:30 PM

They're not to variable per say but I'm definitely not complaining. I think this group has been my best clutch to date in terms of orange intensity. BTW, this group is 75% VR stock and 25% Applegate stock.

Aren't you glad Tim and Dan did all the work to get them to were they are now????
I am. All they can do is get better/cleaner/brighter....LOL
I see some variability. It is in color hue rather than pattern.
Great snakes again Jonel,
John Lassiter
