Green lizards in utah.

Paullywog Jul 13, 2005 11:43 AM

I just had a brainlapse or whatever the other day. I remember that in third grade i went to Dinosaur National Monument in Utah and we saw some all green lizards there. Anyone know what they could be? I can't find them in any field guide, but then again I was really young and didnt think much of it.

I have no idea what's going on. It's more fun that way.

Hey Paulleywog,
I'll bet they were probably whiptails of some kind. I remember as a kid going to Boerne, TX (just N of San Antonio) and seeing some really big, green lizards that I couldn't catch that alluded me in some ivy. In retrospect, I'm sure they were prairie whiptails, which look all green as they are running. THey seemed huge to me, so I'm sure they weren't anoles. Just remember how big sixth graders looked to us when we were in the first grade. LOL

IN both cases there is a possibilityt hey were collard lizards which have a green coloration, to my knowlege there is not a whiptail in either locations that is green. Also it could have been a leopard lizard in Utah but not in Texas. CHeers!

I KNOW they weren't collareds. In fact, I remember they looked almost exactly like anoles, so this is definitely a mystery. They weren't too scared of us, so we got good looks and after we got back from the trip we looked at the pet store and the anoles were uncannily the same looking. WIERD! Thanks for your ideas!
