I went to check the mossy girl one last time before bed, and she was just too cute to pass up on a picture.

PHEve, you may just be able to satisfy your need for photos soon... LOL I can't stop taking them, and I definately need the practice. Too bad my macro wouldn't focus on her face here, but oh well, its still cute...

Look at her eyes. See how sunken in they are?

This is my first gecko, so actually I can't tell. Do you have a photo or something I can compare with?

Compare her eyes in the first photo you posted in this thread (the one that you commented that her head was out of focus) and then look at her eyes in the other two. Look at the bottom of the eyes in particular. They are sunken into the head in those photos whereas in the first, they are bulged out like they should be.

Could it have been because she was sleeping? I think I read that you can tell a sleeping gecko from one thats awake by looking at the pupil and the eyes will be sunk in. I'm not sure though...

I just looked at her now that she's finished a shower, and her eyes look good. Thanks for the heads up!

Its not just the eyes, Mine sometimes have there eyes a little sunken in during the day but they are fully hydrated.

You should look at the tail! If it is flat then the animal is hydrated. If it is curled up then the animal is dehydrated. Here is a photo of a hydrated female Henkeli!

Thanks Erik

I agree with Erik. My geckos eyes sometimes get slightly sunken in when resting during the day, the tail is the most accurate indicator of dehydration.

From the first pic, he tail did look kinda flat, and I'm not sure if it was the the pose or not... Either way, I checked her again this morning, and the tail still looked good. Thanks again guys, because I'd be nowhere without the help.

No problem. Hope it does great! Sorry to hear about your male though. If you have any more questions please ask!

Also you might want to keep a close eye on her tail. Sometimes imports can go from hydrated to dehydrated very quickly!

Im just checking but do you have a water bowl or waterfall in its cage?? I would recomend one or the other. Some people say it is not neccesary but I put waterfalls in all my adult cages and see them drink every night!! A water bowl would be fine if you dont have a waterfall.

Good Luck. Leaf-tail geckos are awesome aren't they!!!!

Thanks Erik

No, I didn't remember to put the water dish in. I'll do that now. I've been misting her quite a bit. I misted her at lunch, and there are still water droplets on her skin, yet she looks more dehydrated than she did at lunch...

I also agree, mine sometimes have there eyes look like that while sleeping. Just keep an eye on her, if ya see her tail curl, make sure she gets plenty to drink to stay hydrated.

I sure hope she does well for you, it was a shame about your male.
