Otis and his bloody nose

the4thmonkey Jul 13, 2005 01:45 PM

I bought the kids a new aluminum screen cage for outdoors. They seem to enjoy it, stay awake much longer and are more active outside than they are inside. But Otis has rubbed his nose bloody on the screen twice now. I kept him inside while it healed, but as soon as I tried again, he was bloody again. So the 3 girls go outside and he does not. Do you think he would eventually stop, or would he rub his face off if I left him out there?

As far as his nose rub, if it were me I would just leave him in and let it heal. If he is okay in the house and does not do this, than so be it, leave him in.

I have had wc's do that and they bleed everytime. KONG used to do it alot after I put him back in his tank.
He loved running in the room. And he was so big and heavy he was really doing a number on his nose, so I let him free roam, lol.

I have seen collareds do it to the point of disfigurment,

So take the girls out and let them enjoy the sun!

He is beautiful!

And thanks, I think he is a gorgeous guy myself! I was really sorry there were no hatchlings from him and one of his girls this year. Maybe next year. I have been leaving him inside until it is completely healed, then as soon as he goes outside he does it again. There is no screen except at the top of the indoor enclosure and he does not get on that. So I guess Otis will have to be an indoor guy this summer while the girls enjoy the outdoors. I'm sorry he does not get to enjoy basking in the the sun and benefit from it, but I can't have him wrecking his pretty face and/or risking infection.
