What should the humidity of a glauerti enclosure be?

bugman426 Jul 13, 2005 02:56 PM

Do you only mist one side of the enclosure, and not the other?

What should the humidity be

Thanks

Hi,
Go to weather.com, or check in Daniel Bennetts (1998) book "Monitor Lizards" for locality, i.e. Oenpeli, Northern Territory, Australia, and see the weather at this local, and other times of the year, and you will have your answers - the humidity is not the same year throughout, so your question is not straight forward, or easy to answer...but check those sources and that should get you what you need...
Good luck,

thanks for the info, but i was asking for people who keep them at home what they keep the enclosures humidity at....not what the humidity is in the wild where they are from

thanks though

Hi,
I did misunderstand you - but if you wish to know what the humidity is from where they live, and that would complement them more to their liking/adaptation, then wouldn't it benefit them overall more-so in captivity?
Good luck,

I would think finding out what there prefered humidity level is would benifit them more. As I assume where they are from as with everywhere else the wild animals have to deal with extremes that we as owners can make sure they don't have to deal with in captivity.

What humidity would you suggest, in april, may, june, july, etc. You know, in the wet or in the dry?

Also, in what area, you mention the isolated eastern population in Kakadu. How about just west of Kunanurra? or in the Mitchell river gorge in the tropical rain forest? Or maybe in the barren rocky hills north of Turkey creek? or in the King Leopold range or the Dampier? Kimberlys occur in all these diverse habitats. The humidity surely varies with all these places.

To make it worse, they occur with the likes of ackies, western storrs, tristis, kingorum, mitchells, mertens, panoptes, Eremius, glebopalma, etc etc. Do they require a different humidity then these? Or maybe they like something similar to Roughscaled pythons, they occur with them? or Maybe like Blackheaded pythons, they occur with them also.

Wow, I am surely confused, could you narrow it down a bit. I would really like to understand your post?

I have a question, do they sit out all the time? you know in the humidity. Or maybe they hide and wait for the humidity to be just right? maybe they, Oh I have an idea, whats the humidity in their hiding areas? is it different then the outside humidity? what about night and day? humidity surely varies with all these too. Man am I confused.

With all these complex questions, I really have to wonder why we even try to keep them in captivity, its surely impossible to get it right????????? FR
