question to all breeders?

kich4theanswer Jul 13, 2005 05:11 PM

I recently bought a pair of adult crested geckos. The night that they were first put together they starting cherping, so I turned on the light and I saw the male bitting the female's foot. They have cherped every night so far, So I'm just woundering if my female is possibly fertile and if I should be expecting eggs in 20-23 days? This is my first time breeding them so I'm unsure of thier habits during breeding. Also my female seems to stay in one place every single day is that normal?

it will take anywhere from
25-100 days before the first clutch
is laid. But thats only if it is the
females first clutch.

also theres a good chance it wont
be fertile. All cresteds look for a
favorite spot and tend to sleep there
for a few nights. thats not a big deal
the biting of the girls foot is a good thing
that means they are mating.

I agree, but I have had plenty of females lay fertile eggs their first time. They usually lay within thirty days of mating, but it won't be within 30 days of the introduction. It depends when the male is successful with the mating. My males usually try their hardest to mate with gravid females, but the females usually put up a good enough fight to discourage the male for at least that night. This is my opinion from my experience, so it is not a definite outcome, just my outcome. You should take the info you get from different posts and try to "average" them out to get a basic idea of what to expect, but do not expect to find a definite answer. With that said good luck and congrats with the mating! It is really pretty easy if you follow the advice given on this board. The people here are very experienced and 99% of the time you will get accurate answers! -Joe
