Help with new CWD

Fat_Bastard Jul 13, 2005 06:36 PM

Some of you may know that I recently got a new CWD as a rescue. We've had him almost a month now and he's been getting better. He had infections in both eyes and internal parasites. I took him to the vet right after we got him and have been treating him myself since. I thought that the eye infections were under control but today I took him out to feed him and noticed a VERY large patch of dried blood running down his cheek and under his chin. I have no idea what could have caused this but the eye itself seems fine. I cleaned him up with Betadine and put him back home after spraying the tank for humidity (it was a bit low). If anyone here has any ideas what may be wrong, please enlighten me, I want this guy to be OK

Check the inside of the mouth. Do you feed pinkies or fuzzies, if so this may just be from the food. If he were spitting up blood I would imagine that you would see other signs of stress, so I don't think it's likely. Probably a mouth injury if the above two have been eliminated, if there is no swelling I would say that it is nothing to be concerned with, and will probably heal quickly.

I don't feed him pinky's yet as he's too small. He'll barely eat crickets though too. Been mostly having to force feed repti-aid although he's starting to take a couple crickets. He had intestinal parasites to begin with but I have treated him per the vet for those and he is starting to eat those. as for the bleeding, I checked his mouth and didn't see anything, but it was clearly coming from his eye, not the mouth. I believe that he still had an abcess from the infection that burst. He seems to have plenty of energy though so I'm hopeful. Thanks for your suggestion!!!
