Help!! Rana is cramped up!

FEENIEE Jul 13, 2005 07:26 PM

O.k. I have made 4 attempts to move Rana into her big girl cage 2x2x3 foot cage. I've made it look soooo similar to the one shes in now and every time I try to move her, she stresses out big time. Right now she is in a 16x16x24 cage and all I need to know is if this is enough space for her. She is very happy in her cage and I don't want to move her if it's going to stress her out. Any thoughts?

IS there any way you can move her old cage next to the new one for a bit? So she can get used to it by seeing it constantly.
Or better yet is there any way to attatch them (like putting the two open doors together or take down a wall between one.. something like that, and let her go into it on her own?

Otherwise that just keep trying! She will get used to it eventually.

and put her fsavorite foods in the bigger cage in a feeding cup and not so favorite foods in the smaller cage.
Also could it be she is seeing something scary from the bigger cage not necessarily what is in the cage but maybe another pet even wires can be scary as they can look like snakes.

I will try that. I've moved her while she was sleeping and thought if she woke up in a new place she would adjust. WRONG! I've tried letting her crawl in her new cage by herself, she does o.k. until I close the door then she hangs from the screen. The two cages are identicle and I've even put the big cage in the same spot as the old cage so she would have the same view, but as soon as she realizes what's going on she hangs onto the screen. This last attempt I put all her favorite treats in there and she did not eat for 3 days, but once I put her back in the smaller cage she ravaged her food. I'll try letting her go in between the two cages herself and see how it pans out. If it doesn't work, do you think her cage is to small to live in, I don't want to force the issue if I don't have too.

is to releive stress so if it stresses her more don't push it.
Just see if you hook them together she may move in on her own terms. Wow you moved her while she slept. LOL she woke up and thought she was in the Twilight Zone! It reminds me of one of those old episodes. She falls asleep one place and wakes up somewhere else. You would freak out if that happened to you. LOL

this is just stupid.all chameleons are gonna stress from handling them or moving them to a new enclosure.its the on going stress that will be harmfull.just place the animal in the new enclosure and walk away.the chameleon will not sress after a while unless there is something in the cage to stress over(like enemy, bad husbantry, ect.)youre giving this animal way too much credit and assuming that it is smart enough or self aware enough to prefer one cage over another.maybe whats stressing out your chameleon is you!!,maybe you should stop staring at it for so long and leave it alone so it can adjust to its new enclosure.
