First Hybino

Robert Seib Jul 13, 2005 08:08 PM

I am lucky and happy today. This gorgeous animal is the first Hybino honduran milksnake I have hatched, a beautiful tricolor phase.

Thank you Terry Dunham for producing the parents of this snake. From you I received a male tricolor phase Hypo het albino and some female tangerine phase hypo het albinos.

I was lucky enough to get a clutch of 9 from one and 2 from the other in their second year of life. I am down to 6 and 1 eggs, respectively.

So this may be all I get as far as Hybinos. But I am so happy!

I just wanted to share this photo with everyone who may be interested.

Thank you,
robert seib

How did you know? It's funny. I could not sleep much, and when I did, I was dreaming about this clutch.

Robert,
First off well done and you should feel pleased with the double mutation / Hybino. You state that it is a tricolor phase but in the pic looks more like a tangerine phase, regardless it looks very nice. I expect we shall see some more shortly and wonder if there will be any variations among the look.
Enjoy your new addition.
Kind Regards,
Adam

Let's ask Terry to look at the photos when they are all out of the eggs. The sire was a tricolor phase hypo het albino, and the dam was a tangerine phase.

It appears that of this clutch of 6 eggs, 3 will be hybino.

Terry has the photos.

Congrads Robert! Terry D produced a couple males just like that last year. He and I thought they were most likely Hybinos. I know yours hasn't shed yet but he seems to have that bleached out look in the orange which would be the Hypo trait showing. Glad to finally see one for sure. The mistery is over. Now the guestion what are they going to be worth?????

>>Now the guestion what are they going to be worth?????

John, for the ones i hope to produce this year i have an order for one pair, males were 3200 ea and females 2800. The hypos het/albino necessary to produce definite hybinos are holding at 850 ea. because they CAN produce these (the other 3/4 of the babies are hypos 2/3 chance het/albino). Until "pale=hybino" is confirmed, i don't believe it appropriate for me to sell my pale "possible hybinos" as the real thing, so those animals, pale or not--albinos with 25% chance of BEING hybino and 50% chance of being het/hypo--have been selling for $1k, down $200 from last year's price. The pale ones will just go to whoever ordered that genotype first.

Who else out there has hypo het/albino clutches this year?

peace
terry

congratulations robert. to the best of my knowledge, this is the first definite hybino produced. i agree with adam, it looks more like a tangerine phase to me.
now if we can just ID the characteristics associated with hybinos, so we can distinguish them from the non-hybino albinos resulting from pairings that CAN produce hybinos but can produce "just" amels too (example: i'm breeding an albino het/hypo x double hets for hybino).
John's right, i produced a couple last year i hung onto because they were paler than the rest. I plan to test them next year to see if they're hybinos. I also have a pale one from 03 that bred this year x several hypos, i have about 20 eggs so am hoping i'll be able to tell from the results whether he's a hybino. If he's not, it could throw the "pale=hybino" theory into uncertainty. Hopefully that won't happen.
Again, congrats. That's a great accomplishment.

What phases are the other snakes in this clutch?

I'll get you a new photo today of all that have hatched.

Rtdunham Jul 15, 2005 11:06 AM

here's another pic of robert's first animal and a clutchmate. I'll post the others when he gets them to me. I'd consider these both tangerines.
