An unusual "common" plus some animals from a jungle litter

Mickey_TLK Jul 13, 2005 08:30 PM

Well I spent some time getting shots of a few of the animals from Mark Millers jungle litter today. Im still looking for opinions of a few of the snakes. There are some that sure carry atleast a couple of the jungle traits. Currently I have the most promising listed high on the site so I can grow them for a while and see what happens.

On that note, I got in a yearling male boa on trade the other day. It came from our shop last season, but I wasnt able to find out any other genetic info as it was first traded to an employee at another store, then brought into us. Im told the guy who purchased it from us said it was mean. The guy who got it from him said it bit him a few times in the couple of days he had it. This, plus the colors of the animal lead me to believe it was from one of two litters I got my hands on last season.

Jeremy Stone sent me a number of jungle siblings, many of which we sold off locally as commons when we were low on common boas. Many of theese had an attitude. The only other litter full of "evil" boas were from a local breeder, Glen Eisel. For some reason many of his boas are EVIL but boy the colors. I believe his animals are from the same founding line Jeff started his pastels from. Either way this snake is very cool looking.

Definately a cool looking snake either way. To bad its a male, or Id have a use for him...LOL.

Here are some of the animals from Mark Millers genetic jungle litter. Anyone want to bet one way or the other on theese animals chances at being a low end jungle (dont worry you will not hurt my feelings).

Sorry for all the pics, figured might as well put them all in one post rather then ask people to go to my site and look. This is not an add, Im just looking for honest opinions. The animals are from a Genetic Jungle (kahl) litter but were purchased from mark as the "left overs" so to speak. He was obviously not willing to put his name that any were jungles, and Im not either at this point. But there are a few that he and I both agreed were very close to call. As such Im likely going to raise them up a year.

After getting the odd ball boa above back it really makes me wonder what a year will do to them. I assure you I dont recall selling a boa that I felt would grow into the snake above. Then again its hard to say what they will do. Im still of the belief that picking out a low end jungle is far more difficult then say picking out a hypo in a f1 hypo litter. What do you guys think?

we could make it one day without hearing the "J" word. The pics are not good, but if any have a chance it is the first Poss Jungle one pictured....maybe.

Anyway, if anybody wants to see a smokin jungle, go to Pete Kahls journal page and see the jungle albino.

They all look like possibles. None jump out and scream "defenite jungle!", to me. Most of the non-abby ones have junglish tail bordering.

I think it will become more apparent as they age and color up.

Awesome bunch of boas, jungle or not!

I was thinking the same thing.

well out of all those possibles the only one that really struck me as being possibly a jungle is #1, due to the blocky tail, somewhat dark edging around the saddles and the diff base coloration, the others look like nice normals... however!! I have *never* seen a jungle in person and online pics can look diff on every PC, so my opinion is just a simple guess and I have no knowledge to back it up.

The boa above is very nice as well, I really like his coloration and light saddles. Doesn't strike me as a jungle simply because there's no outline on the saddles/no major color diff, but again, I'm not the best person to say either way. I would be happy to have him in my collection even if he is a meanie, so send him on over.

Nice snakes either way and no matter what they turn out as.

Thanks April

Yea I deffinately dont think the older snake is a jungle, maybe one of last years jungle siblings but even at that not a jungle.

I agree they are very nice looking either way, gotta love boas. It does go to show how difficult it can be at times to make the call. I still have 6 more of the ones from Mark Millers litter to get pictures of. They are the most common looking ones of the litter. If you set them next to the others you can see a large difference, but does that make them a jungle, likely not.

Ive only seen a couple of jungles in snake myself. Ive seen many jungle siblings, and photos of actual jungles online. The characteristics can be difficult to nail down. That said I think the old saying "you can tell the jungles in the litter" is about 95% true. However as more and more people produce them that leaves alot of room for 5% errors to go one way or the other.

The better breeders/dealers are likely to error on the side of selling as common, rather then jungle. With this in mind, I think whenever you have a chance to get a female jungle sibling for a good deal, its likely not a bad move. If you get lucky on the 5% it would pay off nicely.

Sorry bout the rant
