Photo Problems...

Doug89 Jul 13, 2005 08:46 PM

Hey guys. I got my photos developed today and was hoping to show off some nice shots but i have few problems with these photos. Unfortunately i cant post em b/c my scanner is being fixed and i didnt check off the photo cd on the film processing pack. Anyway in most of the pictures there are problems on the left side of the photo. In some pics its just what looks like a bnlack semi transparent layer yet in others it is an extremely bright blue and red. I dont know what the errors are my guesses are: 1.) Unsinchronized flash 2.) Something wrong with the shutter 3.) a processing or film error. Maybe it was my fault i dont know. I personally think it was #1 or #2. Anyways out of a roll of 24 pics ive got about 2 or three really nice ones and 5-6 pretty decenyt ones. Ill try to post some of them up asap. Thanks guys and if anyone knows whats wrong please post. Needless to say ill try another (better flash) that i should have used in the first place and ive got another roll lying around that needs to be developed. So ill determine the problem by process of elimination. Thanks again!

just to give you a little money saving hint, i work at target and what i'd do when getting photos developed is just ask for a photo cd only, what you can actually do, this a bit more difficult, but ask them for a blank photo cd, take it home, and burn copies of it, and put them in the envelope with your film, thats what i did then you'd only hafta pay developing fees

I'm not sure what you are saying? Is the left side of the picture black or transparent (i.e. did it overexpose or underexpose)?

1.) Unsinchronized flash
2.) Something wrong with the shutter
3.) a processing or film error.

It could be a flash sync issue (did it occur in non-flash pictures?). If the shutter speed is higher than the maximum flash sync speed, you will see a part of the image underexposed, but this is usually the top or bottom, not the left or right.

If it was a shutter problem, you would also see the same top or bottom underexposure (unless your camera has a shutter than goes across the frame??).

I doubt it was a processing error.

Another possiblity is a light leak. If there is some light leaking into the camera around the rear door or elsewhere, you will see this overexposure (light or red/yellow) area on the edge of your images. Of course, if you open your camera without rewinding you will also see this (DOH! I did this once, can you tell?).

Scan one of the slides and we can see if we can figure it out.

flash sync problem can go either way up and down or left and right, depending on if you have a cloth or metal shutter

Thats what the guy at the photo store said. I unfortunately wasnt there but i had my mom check it out while she was out doing errands (i had to stay home and babysit). Anyway he said once the camera's shutter speed goes above 1/60 the flash wont be in synch with it and i have a curtain shutter that goes from right to left. But i still think the problem is that it doesnt close fast enough. I was looking at the shutter with the back open and the flash attached and when i let it fire i could see that (depending on the shutter speed) part of the light from the flash was showing through as the shutter closed. So i dont know what to do if my shutter speed needs to be above 1/60 and i want to use a flash. Any suggestions? I did however just get a roll of ISO 100 Slide film, but i dont want to screw up the pictures case its Fujichrome Sensia. Anyway thanks guys! I think im gona go back to the camera shop and be there so i know exactly whats going on.

i'm pretty sure that the X-700 isn't capable of flash sync faster than 1/60th, at least, mine nvr worked faster than that..

Doug,

One problem I had a while ago was that I incorrectly lined up the film, It went through frame by frame but the problem was that each image was across two frames these edges of the frames were clear or bright red or black.

Also done the light in the door trick that chris mentioned but I found that it effected the bottom edge of all the prints and 2 whole prints (this is were the light must of hit the film)

Thems the breaks,

Scott
