Het for Hypo Brooksi..

jlassiter Jul 14, 2005 12:21 AM

Picked up this male last year from Don Shores and just snapped some pics of her. I thought I would share my best shot.
She sure is lightening up and has reached 30 inches. Not bad for a 2004 hatch.
Thanks for looking,
John Lassiter
The bottom pic was taken soon after I got her.

Beautiful coloration and I love those razor thin crossbars!

That is a gorgeous snake! The coloration is to die for. Would you happen to have any pics of the parents? And what do you guys mean by "het for hypo?"

jlassiter Jul 14, 2005 06:15 PM

Het is short for heterozygous which means it carries the trait. If an animal shows a specific trait it is Homozygous.
Het for hypo is produced from a hypo X normal pairing or from a hypo X het hypo pairing. As long as one parent is homozygous for hypomelanism all the offspring will be 100% heterozygous for hypomelanism.
One of the parents to this snake was/is hypomelanistic.
Check out Terry Dunham's website albino triocolors dot com and he has a great genetics page that has helped me out a lot.

I do not have parent pics of this snake. It was not produced by me. Don Shores produced her.

Thanks guys...I am in the process of getting her "to size" to breed to my striped hypo male that I purchased as a female right before November last year. Or I will breed it to my huge hypo male, but I think there will be a size difference problem since he is 68"

Here are a couple pics of her potential mates.

Thanks a lot for that info jlassiter. So if you would cross a 100% hypo brooksi (which comes from two true hypo brooksis'?) with a het for hypo brooksi, you would still get a 100 percent hypo hatchling? Bare with me here, I'm really not this dumb!

A heterozygous to homozygous pairing will result in 3/4 homozygous and 1/4 100% heterozygous....
Like I said check out Albino Tricolors' genetics page.
It is very helpful.
