How long without eating?

yelli Jul 14, 2005 03:21 AM

I searched the forums before deciding to ask this question, but found no replies that suited my issue. I've had my (probably late '04) snake for 2 weeks now, and it hasn't eaten. I know they can go a while without food, I'm just worried because it hasn't shown any interest, and it's so small I don't know how long he can hold up. : I've been slicing up frozen pinkies, thawing them in hot water, and giving them to him. His temp is good, humidity is a little high because of the weather around here right now. I even tried someone's suggestion to use crickets. Still no luck!
Help?

...well good 4-U...you actually searched for some info 1st...I didnt think anyone did that anymore...which is why many of us wont answer the obviously non-researched ?'s ....over & over...

You didnt say what your neonate is...but assuming its a king...you should offer it lizards until it eats ravenously, then scent it off on to fuzzies or hoppers.

For the other non-eater post...sounds like youre doing things right tho the mid eighties is a bit warm... but if theyre boars, they may have other urges than feeding Also, you cant get a 6' king [or a pit for that matter] in 2 years & again, try pigeon eggs, a bird-snake or something else, tho an adult king that refuses mice probably wont eat anything else....

As you can see....a happy king likes a lot to eat

Was that RK or did the king squeeeeezzzzeeeeee that dam hard. I've never fed another snake to any of my kings so i don't know if they squeeze that hard to push stuff out the back end. Also what is it the king is eating? Thanks Paul

I'm pretty sure it's a F/T DOR.

Also pretty sure it's a coachwhip, or a whip snake. Not positive on that though.

thanks
so..
does anyone know HOW long it could go without food? It is a king, someone here guessed it was an '04, so still very small.

....boids & crotalids w/ mass, Ive had a few go ~ 1 year. Colubrids I rarely keep till death, but the few I have messed w/ wither & look ready to die in ~ 6 months max., & 4-5 months typically, at typical room temperatures.
If the prey is right, T is right, & the snake can hide completely...you shouldnt have many choose to starve themselves... RxR
