limatt Jul 14, 2005 10:38 AM

hey, i'm looking into get a juvie red tegu. i've done my research but i just wanted to check how the diet would vary from an adult to juvie (what to feed and what not to feed).
the person who i might purchase it from said they were eating crickets, ground turkey, chicken and fuzzy mice.

is this good?

what should i change?

also, i'm going to assume i feed ground turkey raw?

thanks

This link also covers the importance of dusting foods with calcium, and it talks about the importance of fruit for red tegus.

Get your juvie red on fruit as soon as you get him. Sometimes, if they've been fed only meat and rodents they will be reluctant to eat fruit and you'll have to do all sorts of tricks to get some fruit into them.

It's pretty much established that reds need fruit regularly in order to have healthy shedding cycles. For reds, no fruit usually means stuck sheds, which can quickly cause more serious problems.
